About the header photo

This is part of a panorama shot from the summit of Gasherbrum II (8035m) in Pakistan. The glacier is the Baltoro, heading west and down to civilization. The big peak to the left is Masherbrum. The peak behind my name is Gasherbrum IV, 7900m and very technical. The peak above the email address is Broad Peak (8051m). And on the far right, K2 (8611m). You can also see the Trango Group, The Latok Group, and Mustagh Tower.

Welcome

Here you'll find anything related to my Minnesota/Wisconsin climbing guide, as well as any other stuff not related to high altitude. For that info, click the book cover to the left.

March 1, 2010: Guidebook Update Cancelled

I have decided not to update Rock Climbing: Minnesota and Wisconsin. Given my injuries on Everest in 2009 and the continued inability of the publisher to respond to me, I feel I can't undertake this project. Contractual issues prevent me from writing for another publisher.

So you're on your own. Thank you for the support over the years.

June 18, 2009 Update

I summited Everest on May 22. I screwed up the descent to the South Col and am now recovering from frostbite. Read more here. This will seriously slow down my efforts to update the guidebook. But keep taking notes as you climb. Your input will be the main source of info in any case.
